Late season, bucks in the rut. The biggest deer in the Selway-Bitterroot are usually nocturnal, but for this one week in November they abandon the pattern and spend most of the day scenting and tracking does. They do not stay anywhere long, and that constant movement is what makes spotting and stalking them possible at all.
With a general Idaho deer tag you take your choice of a mule deer or a whitetail. There is no draw to enter and no lottery: Cameron Outfitters holds guaranteed tags.
This hunt is not for everyone. Unit 17 is extremely rugged and you need to be in good shape for it, and November weather here is often demanding. What offsets it is some of the most comfortable camps in the backcountry, mountain horses and mules that know the ground, and guides who hunt it every year.

A wolf hunt is added to any elk or deer hunt at no charge. Camp is roughly an hour and a half south of Missoula, Montana; if you fly, arrange flights to MSO. Transport to and from the airport can be provided at additional cost.

They hold exclusive guiding rights to more than 800 square miles of the Selway-Bitterroot and Frank Church wilderness areas, with 25 authorised camps spread from Burnt Mountain in the north to Parker Mountain in the south.
