Two weeks of the November rut, hunted out of the Selway-Bitterroot backcountry in Unit 17. One general deer tag takes either a whitetail or a mule deer, and the tags are guaranteed allocated, so there is no draw.
Getting in means a bush plane out of Missoula and then two to seven hours on horseback, with your gear on a mule. Camp is wall tents with wood stoves and three meals a day.

- 2-on-1, 7 days: November 7 to 19, from $4,200 per hunter
Departures: November 7–13 and November 13–19. Seven days with five full days of hunting.
Bush plane flights are not included. A 25% deposit books the hunt. The deposit and the final payment are both non-refundable, and they recommend trip cancellation insurance. Everything you bring is packed on a mule, so gear is capped at one 55 lb soft duffle with no hard cases. There is no phone service or wi-fi in camp.

Guaranteed allocated outfitter tags — no draw. The hunter pays $195 for the Idaho non-resident hunting licence and $356.75 for the deer tag. One general tag takes either a whitetail or a mule deer.
